Financial Challenges Fail to Silence Manbhudza the Great’s Musical Dream
By Nelson Geje
UPCOMING musician Bruce Mazonde, popularly known as Manbhudza the Great, is determined to overcome financial challenges and establish himself in Zimbabwe’s competitive music industry.
Mazonde began his musical journey in June 2024, driven by a belief in his abilities and a desire to rise above a disadvantaged background.
Although he describes himself as multi-talented, the aspiring musician says inadequate financial resources have made it difficult for him to develop and promote his career.
“My musical journey started in June 2024. What inspired me most is that I am multi-talented, despite coming from a poor background,” Mazonde said.
Like many emerging artists, Mazonde faces the high costs associated with recording music, producing videos, securing performances and promoting new material. Without adequate financial backing or access to established industry networks, talented newcomers often struggle to gain public recognition.
Mazonde, however, remains confident that his circumstances will not determine his future.
“Vamwe vanondiudza kuti ndinogona, asi nyaya yemari ndiyo iri kundidzosera kumashure. Zvisinei, ndinoziva kuti ndichabudirira,” he said.
Loosely translated, Mazonde said people around him recognise his potential, but financial constraints remain his greatest obstacle. Despite the setback, he believes he will eventually succeed.
His determination reflects the experience of many young Zimbabweans who possess talent and ambition but lack the resources needed to turn their abilities into sustainable careers.
For Manbhudza the Great, music represents more than entertainment. It is an opportunity to change his life, inspire others from disadvantaged backgrounds and demonstrate that humble beginnings do not have to prevent people from pursuing their dreams.
His journey also highlights the need for promoters, producers, businesses and arts organisations to identify and support emerging musicians. Assistance through affordable studio time, mentorship, performance opportunities and publicity could help promising artists develop their skills and reach wider audiences.
While Mazonde’s musical career is still developing, his confidence remains unshaken.
Financial challenges may have slowed his progress, but Manbhudza the Great is holding firmly to his conviction: “I will make it.”
