Chikanga Secondary School, a learning institution under the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe Education Department in Manicaland Province, continues to make steady progress in strengthening its learning environment and expanding access to education.

Established in 2014, the school is currently led by Head Zaina Fanuel and has an enrolment of 70 learners. The institution has recently recorded encouraging growth in student numbers, with enrolment increasing from 42 learners in 2025 to 70 learners in 2026.

The school has undertaken several improvements aimed at enhancing infrastructure and security. Among the notable developments was the purchasing and installation of three metal doors to improve the safety of school facilities.

Maintenance work was also carried out on leaking classroom block roofs, ensuring that learners study in a more conducive environment. In addition, the school purchased printers to support administrative work and academic activities.

To improve power reliability, the institution also purchased and installed a solar system, which helps sustain operations during electricity outages. The installation of a school signage has also strengthened the identity and visibility of the school within the community.

Despite these positive developments, the school continues to face several challenges that affect its operations. These include cases of vandalism affecting school property and non-payment of school fees by some parents.

The school also faces accommodation challenges for staff, high staff turnover and periodic water shortages. Social issues such as early marriages among some learners also pose challenges to the school’s efforts to ensure continuous education for all students.

The school leadership has outlined several development plans aimed at improving infrastructure and strengthening the institution’s operations. One of the key priorities is the erection of a diamond mesh wire fence to improve security around the school premises.

Plans are also in place to resuscitate the school’s water system and construct teachers’ cottages to address staff accommodation challenges.

In addition, the school is working towards registration with the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC), which will enable it to become a recognized examination centre.

Further development initiatives include the construction of an administration block, a science laboratory and a computer laboratory. The school also plans to paint classroom blocks and toilets, purchase a school siren, install a Chubb door screen and improve office furniture.

As part of the AFM in Zimbabwe education network, Chikanga Secondary School continues to contribute to the church’s broader vision of providing quality education rooted in Christian values. School authorities remain committed to improving facilities and ensuring that learners receive education that prepares them academically, socially and spiritually.
