Newly promoted Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) side Rufaro Starlets Academy of AFM in Zimbabwe has moved decisively to strengthen its squad, announcing the signing of six players ahead of the 2026 season.

The academy, which represents Rufaro High School and previously competed in the Southern Division women’s league, is preparing for its first campaign in the top flight following a remarkable debut season that saw the team clinch the Eastern Region Division One Cup.

In a clear signal of intent, Rufaro Starlets have added Botswana-based winger Josephine Mushonga, right midfielder Ropafadzo Mafirefa, and defensive midfielder Mitchell Joseph—both from Harare City—to reinforce the squad. The club has also secured the services of former Sheasham left winger Priviledge Magagani, goalkeeper Elizabeth Kavisi from Shedza Queens, and right back Shantel Kadzunge, who returns to the academy ranks.

The recruitment drive underscores the team’s ambition to compete strongly in the ZWPSL, as they transition from regional football to the national stage. Blending experienced recruits with returning talent, Rufaro Starlets are positioning themselves to navigate the demands of top-tier competition.

Having risen swiftly from the lower divisions, the academy now faces the challenge of proving its credentials among Zimbabwe’s elite women’s football clubs when the new season kicks off.
