Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe school, Mt Carmel College is emerging as a fast-growing education institution, recording significant enrolment growth, improving academic results and notable achievements in co-curricular activities.

The school, led by headmaster Cleaford Mutyoro, currently has an enrolment of 212 learners, a sharp increase from 90 learners just over a year ago.

Rapid Enrolment Growth

School authorities attribute the rapid increase in enrolment to growing confidence from parents and the surrounding community, as the institution continues to expand its academic and extracurricular offerings.

The surge in learner numbers, however, has created pressure on existing infrastructure, with the need for additional classroom space becoming more urgent.

Academic and Technological Progress

Mt Carmel College has also made strides in improving its academic performance. The school’s pass rate has shown a consistent upward trend, rising from 12 percent in 2023 to 41 percent in 2024, and further improving to 48 percent in 2025.

To support teaching and learning, the school has invested in modern infrastructure and technology. Among the key developments is the installation of a solar power system, ensuring continuity of lessons during power outages.

The school has also embraced digital connectivity through the installation of Starlink WiFi, providing access to online learning resources for both learners and staff.

In addition, a new classroom for Form One has been constructed to help accommodate the growing enrolment.

Co-Curricular Excellence

Beyond academics, Mt Carmel College is also making its mark in sports and co-curricular activities.

The school won two trophies in ball games in 2025, demonstrating its competitiveness in sporting disciplines.

In 2026, learners further excelled by winning eight gold medals, five silver medals and two bronze medals in various competitions, reflecting a strong culture of talent development.

The school also organised an educational trip to the Chinhoyi Caves in 2025, providing learners with practical learning experiences outside the classroom.

Challenges

Despite these achievements, the school faces several challenges associated with its rapid growth.

There is a shortage of classroom blocks, as increasing enrolment has led to more streams being introduced each year.

The school is also grappling with heavy teaching loads for staff, which may affect the quality of lesson delivery if not addressed.

Future Plans

In response to these challenges, the school has outlined plans to expand its academic programmes and improve teaching resources.

Among the key priorities is the introduction of Advanced Level classes by 2027, which will allow learners to continue their studies within the institution.

The school also plans to embrace digital learning tools, including the introduction of interactive boards by 2027, as part of efforts to modernise teaching and enhance learner engagement.

School leadership expressed optimism that, with continued support and strategic development, Mt Carmel College will continue to grow into a centre of excellence within the Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe education system.
